Modern gasoline engines, especially Otto-cycle engines, continue to evolve rapidly, delivering greater fuel efficiency and higher specific power. In the 1970s, for example, a 1.5 L engine typically produced between 50 and 60 hp. Today, an engine of the same displacement can generate between 150 and 170 hp, primarily due to advances such as electronic engine management, direct injection, and turbocharging.
However, these engines are designed to operate under precise conditions, and their performance depends heavily on fuel quality and system cleanliness. Even when good-quality fuel is used, carbon deposits can gradually accumulate over time, leading to reduced engine efficiency, loss of performance, increased fuel consumption, rough operation, and higher maintenance requirements.
In Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines, the fuel injector is positioned directly inside the combustion chamber rather than upstream of the intake valve. This design improves efficiency and power output, but it also makes the engine more sensitive to fuel quality. Because injectors operate under high pressure and temperature conditions, they are more vulnerable to deposit formation, carbon buildup, and clogging, which can negatively affect spray pattern, combustion quality, drivability, and fuel economy.
For drivers of light-duty vehicles, these issues can translate into noticeable everyday problems: reduced throttle response, engine hesitation, power loss, higher fuel costs, more frequent maintenance, and declining vehicle performance over time. In markets where gasoline prices remain high, any loss in combustion efficiency has a direct impact on operating cost.
Milex® gasoline additives were developed to meet the performance requirements of both modern and legacy gasoline engines. These additives help remove existing deposits and prevent the formation of new ones, supporting cleaner fuel systems and more consistent engine operation.
Keeping a gasoline engine clean is a fundamental requirement for any effective additive. Milex® PX Series goes further by also helping inhibit corrosion, particularly in gasoline blended with ethanol, and by reducing friction to help protect critical engine components such as pistons and piston rings. Most importantly, Milex® PX Series includes patented combustion improver technology that enhances combustion efficiency and can deliver proven fuel savings of up to 10%.
Milex® PX Series additives have successfully passed gasoline engine cleanliness tests, including the VW EA111 (1.4 TSI) engine test, achieving the required performance standards with margin. These tests were conducted at an independent, CEC-certified engine test facility in Europe.
When selecting a gasoline additive, choose Milex® PX Series—engineered to help deliver cleaner engines, improved efficiency, and more miles with less fuel.
